DIY Valentines Day Fortune Cookies

  • Grease two rimmed baking sheets well. Preheat the oven to 350.
    Beat together the sugar and egg whites until foamy. Stir in the melted butter and vanilla then add the flour. Divide the batter in half, adding the red food coloring to one of he batter halves to make the red cookies.

  • For the first batch, use tablespoon or a scoop to place batter on to one of the baking sheets. One tablespoon of batter will yield about a 4" circle. Make sure that the batter is in a circle. Then sprinkle a few heart on to the cookies and bake for 6-8 minutes or until the cookies begin to turn golden. While this batch is baking you can prepare the next batch.

  • Use a large spatula to transfer the first cookie to a cutting board or clean work space, flipping the cookie over on to the work spot. Place a fortune in the center of the cookie and then fold the cookie in half. Use the edge of a cup or mug to crimp the cookie on the straight end. Repeat until all of the cookies have been made.
