    Simple S'Mores Snack Mix

This is one of those snack recipes that is as much fun to make as it is to eat.
It is also a fun activity for to enjoy with kids in the kitchen!

This recipe is especially for anyone asking what is a s'more.

This snack mix is a variation on the campfire cooked S'more recipe that everyone knows and love.
There are three basic ingredients in S'mores - graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate.

Each of the ingredients serves its own important purpose.

The graham crackers is the crunchy outer layer that holds the other ingredients together.
Marshmallows are the glue holding the s'more together while chocolate provides the the flavor that binds together the other ingredients.

    How to personalize S'Mores snacks

Yes, you can easily enjoy the standard S'mores anything going beyond the usual recipe of grahams, chocolate, and marshmallows. Sometimes, you just need to fulfill that craving!

Try adding or subbing in these ingredients to make you snack mix even better:

    1. Popcorn can easily stretch this recipe out and lighten up the sweetness.
    2. Pretzels offer a salty balance to the sugar in this snack.
    3. Nuts, like peanuts or almonds, give this recipe a nice crunch.
    4. Candy, such as M & M's can make these even more colorful.
    5. Use white chocolate chips instead of or in addition to the darker ones.
    6. Instead of cereal use graham cracker cookies.
    7. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top before serving.
    8. Use two kinds of cereal. Adding a round cereal, such as Cheerios, can add a different flavor and fun texture to this snack treat.
    9. Sprinkle some fun sprinkles on top just before serving.

Tips for Making the Best Tasting S'More Snack Mix

I just mentioned some ideas for how to personalize this tasty s'more snacks.
Adding or subbing in can really make this a yummy snack!

Here are a few tips for making your S'More Snacks.

    • Sadly, marshmallows can get hard and cereal can get soft when left out too long in air. For that reason, I recommend serving this asap after making it.
    • Leftovers should be stored in an air tight container.
    • While this recipe calls for chocolate chips, you can easily use melting wafers instead. I am mentioning this because melting wafers come in a variety of fun colors! 🙂

This recipe would be perfect to serve on a Family Movie Night.
You can read How to Make a Family Movie Night here!

Ingredients needed to make great tasting S'More treats.

    • Chocolate Chex Cereal- 4 cups.
    • Golden Graham Cereal- 4 cups.
    • Mini Marshmallows- 5 ounces. One bag is usually 10 ounces which means use ½ a bag.
    • Chocolate Chips- 1 cup. This should be milk or semi sweet chocolate. Feel free to sub in Chocolate Melting Wafers.

How to make great tasting S'More treats.

This is really a simple recipe to make. I suggest however, if you allow kids to make this with you that you take precautions with the warm chocolate as well as the 'mess' that can result (aprons etc).

Step 1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Set this aside. Then place the cereal in a large mixing bowl. Add the marshmallows and then also toss the ingredients. If you are adding nuts, pretzels or other optional ingredients you can add them in this step and toss. Transfer the ingredients from the bowl to the prepped baking sheet, spreading the ingredients out evenly.

Step 2. In a microwavable bowl, melt the chocolate. You want a 'warm melted' chocolate so use 50% power and stop every 30 seconds to stir the chocolate. It should take about a minute to minute and a half to fully melt the chocolate to a warm state.

Step 3. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the ingredients that are on the lined baking sheet. You can use a spoon to help you do this for consistency. Then allow the mix to cool until set. This can take 30 minutes in the refrigerator or an hour at room temperature.

    Step 4. Serve and Enjoy!
