Tips for making truffles.
The easiest way to crush the cookies is to use a food processor. However, you can also place the cookies in a sealed zip top bag and roll a rolling pin over the bag to crush the cookies too.
More tips for you
- Use a cookie scoop to make the truffles a uniform size. A medium sized cookie scoop works well with this recipe.
- Do you have to use the espresso in this recipe? No, the espresso simply adds an accent that does not affect the truffle itself beyond the added flavor.
- If the dough gets sticky when you are rolling out the truffle balls you can refrigerate them for a few minutes to harden up a bit. Another option is to spray a bit of nonstick on the scoop or your hands.

Ingredients needed to make Oreo Truffles with Espresso.

- Instant Espresso- 1-2 teaspoons or as desired.
- Cream Cheese- 8 ounces. The cream cheese should be softened to room temperature.
- White Candy Coating- 1 (10 ounce) package or as needed. Alternatively, you can use almond bark or regular chocolate chips.
- Optional- melted coconut oil or vegetable oil (1-2 teaspoons) as needed for melted chocolate texture and/or additional crushed cookies for decoration.
How to make Chocolate Coated Espresso Oreo Truffles.
This recipe takes about 30 minutes prep time and an additional hour for refrigeration to set. The yield should be about 36 average sized truffles.
Step One: prepare.
Line a rimmed baking sheet that with wax paper or parchment paper. I suggest that you use a baking sheet that can fit into your refrigerator. If your baking sheet is small, you may need to use and additional one depending on how many truffles you make.
Step Two: make the truffle balls.
- Place the cookies into a food processor and blend until the cookies are crushed into crumbs. Depending on the size of your food processor, you may need to do this in batches. Lastly, place your crushed cookies in a mixing bowl.
- When the cookies have all been crushed, you can stir in the (dry, not made) instant espresso. Then you can add the softened cream cheese and mix until well blended.
- When you are able to form balls, use a cookie scoop to scoop out the ingredients, further rolling them into balls using your hands as needed. Then place the rolled balls on to the prepared baking sheet. The truffle balls should be about one to 1 ½ in in diameter.
Step Three: finish making the truffles.
- Melt the candy candy wafers as indicated on the packaging. I like to place mine in a microwave safe bowl and microwave, stopping every 30 seconds to stir, until creamy. Do not overheat or overcook the coating. You can stir in the optional oil or coconut oil instead to help the texture. The melted coating is ready when it can run off of the spoon that is used to stir it.
- Use a spoon, skewer or fork to dip each of the truffle balls into the melted chocolate. You can use an additional spoon in your other hand to help cover each of the truffles with the melted chocolate. Then place the covered truffles on to your prepped baking sheets.
- Sprinkle any optional crushed cookies on top of the truffles and refrigerate until set (about an hour).

Yes. The center filling adds to the recipe moisture and flavor. The filling also helps to bind the ingredients together to make a sturdy truffle.
Since these truffles are made with cream cheese, I would store them in a refrigerator and covered as well. Refrigeration will also help maintain the shape of these truffles.
Yes, However, first place the truffles into the freezer on the baking sheet for about a half hour to get hard. Then you can transfer the frozen truffles to a zip top bag or airtight container for storing.
Once the truffles are set you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. What I like to do is layer the truffles with a piece of parchment paper between them. If properly stored, they should keep for a couple of weeks refrigerated or a couple of months frozen (unless you live in my house 🙂 )
