    Blueberry Heaven on Earth Dessert

Think of this no bake recipe as a blueberry trifle in cake form.

This cake is the blueberry version of the popular cherry heaven on earth cake that is an incredibly light, creamy, and sweet cake.

I like that this tasty dessert can be made with simple store bought ingredients (= easy clean up!).

Did you try my recipe for Cookies and Cream Cake in a Jar?

That recipe for cake in jar is similar to this one as it is a no-bake recipe that uses similar ingredients. Both this recipe for a blueberry layered dessert and that recipe for a cake in a jar and delicious dessert ideas that can be made in little time.

This recipe looks especially impressive when it is served in a trifle bowl. You can find a selection of trifle bowls here.

As it sits, the spongy angel food cake soaks up some of the pudding and pie filling making it extra moist and flavorful.

Frequently asked questions about Heaven on Earth Cake.

What is Heaven on Earth Cake?

Heaven on Earth Cake is a dessert that got its name from how people describe eating it. That is, this dessert is so good that when you ask someone if they like it, they can tell you that eating it feels like "heaven on earth".

Some people compare Heaven on Earth cake to an icebox cake.
Both Heaven on Earth cake and icebox cake are layered desserts that need to set in a refrigerator to set before serving.

How do you make a Heaven on Earth Cake?

A Heaven on Earth cake is made with layered ingredients in a baking dish or trifle bowl. The base of the dessert is made with a porous angel cake.

Pudding, whipped topping, pie filling, and wet dairy ingredients are used to set the structure of the dessert. As the dessert sits refrigerated, the spongy angel food cake soaks up some of the pudding and pie filling making it extra moist and flavorful.

Tips for making Heaven on Earth dessert.

This is a great dessert to make ahead of time and chill in your refrigerator. It takes just a few hours for the cake to soak up the other ingredients and flavors to make this dessert even better!

    More tips for you.

    1. My dessert was made using angel food cake as it is such a light and fluffy cake. However, you can use the cake of your choice, such as Lemon Cake or pound cake.
    2. When slicing your cake into cubes, it is best to use a serrated knife such as a bread knife. This will help the cake hold on to its fluffy texture that is essential for the cake to absorb other ingredients resulting in a perfect dessert.
    3. This cake can be stored in a refrigerator for about two days. After two days, the cake can be too soggy to enjoy as it should be enjoyed.

Personalize this heaven on earth dessert recipe.

This dessert is amazing just the way it is.
However, you can make yours even better.

    Try one of these ideas.

    • Add a layer or topping of fresh blueberries or even another berry such as strawberries.
    • My dessert was made using instant vanilla flavored pudding. You could however use another instant pudding flavor such as banana or white chocolate instant pudding.
    • For an adult version (not for non-adults), you can toss the cake chunks with an adult beverage.

Ingredients needed to make Blueberry Heaven on Earth Cake Dessert

    • Instant pudding. Use a 3.4 ounce (four serving) pudding. My dessert was made using vanilla pudding. You do not need the additional ingredients needed to prepare the pudding.
    • Milk. A milk with higher fat content, such as whole milk or 2%, works best.
    • Greek Yogurt. Alternatively, you can use sour cream for the (tangy flavor) and wet ingredient balance in this recipe.
    • Angel Food Cake. Use a store bought or cooled down homemade cake. You will need about two cups of cubes (one average cake).
    • Blueberry Pie Filling. Use a 21 ounce can.
    • Whipped Topping in a tub. Such as "Cool Whip".
    • Toppings such as slivered almonds.

Expert Tip 👉 Instead of pie filling, you can also use homemade jams/jellies and even add some fresh fruit into it.

How to make Heaven on Earth Cake Dessert.

    Servings: 12
Preparation: 15 minutes plus chilling time.

    EQUIPMENT
    9x13 baking dish
    Mixing bowl
    Whisk

    Step One: prepare.

Prepare your workstation as needed. Also, cut the angel food cake into one inch cubes.
Lastly, make sure that your baking dish is clean.

    Step Two: make the dessert.

    1. Evenly place half of the cubes of cake on the bottom of the baking dish.
    2. Spread or spoon about ⅔rds of the pie filling over the cake cubes.
    3. Place the remaining cake cubes over the pie filling.
    4. In a mixing bowl, use a whisk to combine together the dry pudding mix, milk, and yogurt (or sour cream).
    5. Use a large spoon to evenly distribute the ingredients from the mixing bowl over the cake cube layer that you just placed over the pie filling.
    6. Layer the tubbed whipped topping over the wet ingredients. Using a spoon to place dollops of whipped topping and then spreading them out using a rubber spatula can work with this step.
    7. Lastly, add the remaining pie filling over the whipped topping. Again, dollops can work with this step as well.

    Step Three: finish and serve.

Place the dessert, uncovered, in your refrigerator to set. It should take at least four hours to set and for the cake to absorb enough of the other ingredients to make this dessert work. Right before serving, you can add you toppings to the dessert.

Expert Tip 👉 Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Any longer and it will start to become soggy. I do not recommend freezing as it does not thaw well.
