Are you looking for a particular birdseed that can work best for attracting the birds that are in your area? You can find a great selection of birdseed here.

What exactly is a bagel birdfeeder?

A bagel birdfeeder is just what it sounds like. It is a birdfeeder made using a bagel.

Because a bagel has a hole in the center, we can attach a string to it.

That string in the bagel is used to hang the bagel feeder.
While the birds probably will not eat the bagel, they will enjoy what we put on the bagel for them.

What kind of bagel works best as a birdfeeder?

First off, using a stale bagel is what works best. This is because a stale bagel is more sturdy than a fresh one.

I would also suggest that you use a plain bagel as well.

Really, cheap bagels work as good as expensive ones. What is important is that the bagel is not fresh.

This is a simple project that is suitable for kids of most ages.
However, some children may need a bit of assistance as needed.

    More tips for you

    1. This diy idea uses peanut butter to attach the birdseed to the bagel. If you do not have peanut butter you can try using lard or melted suet.
    2. Don't have a bagel on hand? Try using a pine cone instead.
    3. Birds are usually attracted to lighter colored seeds. I like to use a lot of the lighter seeds along with a few larger seeds such as sunflower seeds.
    4. Lastly, when you hang the bagel, make sure it is high enough up to keep it from other animals (such as pets!) as well as ants.

    Personalize this birdfeeder project.

This project is simple and easy to make. It also does the job when it comes to feeding the birds.

About this homemade bird feeder project.

This is a simple do it yourself project for turning a bagel into a birdfeeder. This project can be done in less than a half hour.

This project is also suitable for most ages.

Some ages will need some assistance in completing this project.
However, just about every age can help to make this bird feeder.

Materials Needed to Make a Bagel Bridfeeder.

    • Bagel- as needed. The bagel should be older or stale for best results. Also, a bagel with a larger and more open hole in the center will be easier to hang.
    • Peanut Butter- ½ cup or as needed, depending on the size and amount of bagels used in this project. I like a creamy peanut butter. Any nut butter can work in this project as well.
    • Birdseed- 1 cup or as needed. Again, the amount of birdseed will depend on the size and the amount of bagels you are using.
    • Twine or ribbon to hang the bagel. My bagel uses a 10 inch piece of twine.
    • You will also use a plastic knife to spread the seed and a foil pan or plastic dish to hold the seeds.

What kind of bird seed do birds like best?

Different birds enjoy certain seeds best. But, most seeds can be enjoyed by most birds. You can simply use bird specific seeds to attract specific birds. The best seeds that all birds seem to enjoy include black oil sunflower seeds. Also, there are seed products specific for your location (to attract birds common to your area) that can be found at a local seed store or garden store.
