Did you see my Valentines Day Rice Krispie Heart Treats recipe?
This recipe is similar to that recipe for a heart shaped krispie treat.
However, this recipe is coated with chocolate and has a stick attached to it.
To make this recipe you will need a heart shaped popsicle mold. You can find a selection of heart shaped popsicle molds here.
This recipe is especially for anyone looking for a DIY Valentines treat idea.
Sometimes, simply making a homemade gift, such as this tasty treat, can make a better impression than an expensive gift can.
This is certainly a gift idea that is made from the heart.
You can also make these heart pops not for gift giving.
I have seen similar versions of this treat idea for sale online and at stores.
However, you can also simply just keep these treat for your own enjoyment.
People ask how do you dip a whole Rice Krispy Treat in melted chocolate.
Dipping a treat in chocolate can certainly make that treat look and taste better.
However, to do so that treat should be small enough to handle as it can get messy.
These heart pops are not dipped in chocolate.
Instead of using dipping chocolate we are using silicon molds.
We will simply melt the chocolate, pour it into the molds, and then freeze them so that they can hold the treats.
Tips for making candy coated krispy treats.
To coat the molds with the chocolate you can use a tablespoon or pastry brush to evenly distribute the chocolate. Using a silicon funnel can be helpful when you pour the melted chocolate into the molds.

More tips for you
- Working with the cereal and marshmallow mix can get sticky. I suggest that you spray your hands with a bit of nonstick or use a bit of oleo or oil on your hands.
- We are using red candy melts for the coating. This makes this recipe even easier to make as the melts are made to melt perfectly and they are the correct (red) color for us.
- The stick needs to go into the center of the heart. I suggest that you place a small amount of the Krispie mixture into the mold, place the stick about half way into the mold, and then top it securely in place with additional mixture.
- When pressing the krispie mix into the molds, it is imporant that you do not place too much pressure on the mixture. Doing so can cause the chocolate coating to break.
Personalize these Valentines day pops.
These pops are really cute just the way they are.
However, you can take them up a notch.
Try one of these ideas.
- Make a bunch if these pops into a bouquet for gift giving.
- Add a flavorful extract such as strawberry extract to the treats for added flavor.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts or coconut flakes on top of the coating or in the coating.

How to make Valentines Rice Krispie Heart Pops
Step One: prepare the molds.
Make sure that your molds are clean and dry. Then place the molds, open side up, and a tray or rimmed baking sheet that can fit into your freezer.
In a microwave safe bowl, melt the candy melts until melted and smooth (about two minutes). It is important that you stop the microwave every 30 seconds to stir the melts to ensure that the melt evenly and that they do not burn.
Carefully transfer the melted chocolate into the cavities of the molds. You will not use all of the melted chocolate here as you will need to coat the backends later on. You can use the back of a spoon or a pastry brush to evenly spread out the chocolate over the molds. Then place the molds into the freezer (using the tray or sheet to transfer with) until the chocolate is set (about 15 minutes).
Step Two: make the treat mixture.
Give a clean microwave safe bowl a quick spray with nonstick. Then add the butter and the marshmallows to the bowl and heat on high for two minutes. Carefully stir the ingredients and then continue to microwave for another minute.
Alternatively, you can heat the ingredients on a stove on low heat until smooth.
Remove the combined ingredients from the heat an stir in the food coloring and any optional extract for flavor. Then stir in the rice cereal and sprinkles.
Step Three: finish making the pops.
Take the set molds out of the freezer.
Carefully place a layer of the marshmallow and krispie mixture into each mold. Then place the popsicle stick about halfway into the heart (depending on how large your stick is as you will need enough room to hold the stick with your hand).
Continue carefully pressing the remaining cereal mixture into the heart molds, securing the stick in place. Then cover the hearts with the remaining melted candy melts.
Place the molds bake into the freezer to set (about 10 minutes).
Carefully peel the molds away from the pops and finish decorating the hearts as desired.
