Ingredients needed to make a homemade milkshake with caramel.
- Vanilla Ice Cream. Your ice cream should be soft enough to easily scoop it out for a good texture.
- Milk. Use whole milk for optimal texture and flavor. Anything less than 2% can make a shake too thin.
- Heavy Whipping Cream. You heavy whipping cream should be chilled or cold.
- Powdered Sugar. A small amount is added to make this shake both sweet and add to the texture.
- Salted Caramel Sauce. Select a caramel sauce that is thin enough to pour and thick enough to hold its shape when poured.
- Vanilla Extract. Added for flavor.
- Optional Ingredients- cookies, whipped cream, and sprinkles for serving.
Tips for Making the Best Salted Caramel Milkshake.
A full fat vanilla ice cream was used to make my shake. While you could use another flavor ice cream to make your shake, I would stick to full fat for a better texture.

More helpful tips for you.
- Adding up to a tablespoon of caramel sauce the the bottom of the glass before the other ingredients can make the presentation more impressive while giving a burst of flavor in the end.
- Drizzling caramel or chocolate sauce down the sides of the glass before filling it can also add to the presentation and flavor of this shake.
- Refrigerate or freeze your glasses before you make your shakes to help your shake last longer.
- If you are using caramel sauce that has not been salted, you can add up to a half teaspoon of salt to your sauce. I would not add more than that as the salt is really a small part of the overall shake.
- Take your shake up a notch by adding a small amount of espresso or booze.
- Top your shake with cookies, chopped nuts, or even fruit such as cherries.
