Frequently asked questions about Chex Bar Treats.
Chex bar treats, such as the ones made in this recipe, are desserts or snacks made with Chex cereal. These bars are just one kind of popular cereal bar that people like to enjoy.
Along with the cereal, there are other ingredients (such as chocolate chips) added for flavor and texture. Melted marshmallows are used to hold the ingredients together.
Technically, a "no-bake" recipe is a recipe that is not baked.
That is, a typical oven is not used to make the recipe.
However, it is possible to make a 'no-bake' recipe using ingredients that have been heated or melted. A microwave or a stove top can be used as part of the process in a a 'no-bake' recipe.
Tips for making Chex snack bars.
To make this recipe, you can use any flavor of Chex cereal.
For added flavor, try using more than one flavor.
More tips for you
- Peanut butter is used in this recipe for flavor and texture. Using creamy, non-organic, peanut butter is suggested for best results.
- Pressing the ingredients into the baking dish is an important part of making these bars.
If your spatula (hands, or whatever you are using) get sticky, try spraying it with a bit of nonstick spray. - This is the kind of recipe that I like to use parchment paper with for an easier clean up. To make slicing the bars easier, use parchment paper that overlaps the sides of the baking dish so that you can easily lift the bars from the baking dish for slicing.
Personalize these Chex Cereal Bars.
These cereal bars are so tasty just the way they are.
However, you can make yours even better.
Try one of these ideas.
- Stir in some peanuts or pretzels for added crunch.
- Split the cereal into both Chex and another crunchy cereal.
- Instead of the peanut butter chips, use chocolate or butterscotch or white chocolate chips instead.

Prep: 25 minutes
Yield: 24 servings

Step Two: make the treats.
- In a large bowl, toss together the toss together the cereal, peanut butter chips (⅔ cup) , and chocolate chips (¼ cup) .
- Next, in a microwave safe bowl that has been sprayed with nonstick or lightly greased, place the marshmallows and butter. Microwave the ingredients on high for one minute and then stir the ingredients vigorously. (If needed, you can return the bowl to the microwave and heat for another 30 seconds to thus melt).
- Carefully stir the peanut butter into the mixture until combined.
- Transfer the warm marshmallow mixture to the first bowl with the cereal etc.
- Lastly, evenly disburse the combined ingredients to the prepared baking dish, firmly pressing the ingredients into the dish.
