How to make Valentines Day Message Cookies
Step One: prepare the cookie dough.
Use a whisk or a fork to mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Set this bowl aside.
In a mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until creamy. The stir in the egg and milk.
Gradually add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the mixing bowl (mixer set on low) and mix until the dough pulls away from the edges of the bowl. You can finish mixing the dough using your hands until just combined. Then transfer the dough to a clean workspace.
Step Two: form the dough.
Dust the workspace with a big of powdered sugar to keep the dough from sticking. Then form the dough into a log. Feel free to knead in a drop or two of food coloring for color.
Wrap the cookie dough log in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least two hours.
Step Three: finish the cookies.
When you are ready to make the cookies, remove the dough log from the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 375 and prep two baking sheets for nonstick (I use parchment paper).
Use a knife to slice the cookies ¼-1/3" thick. Place the cookies on to the prepped baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges begin to turn golden. Allow the cookies for fully cool on a cooling rack.
When the cookies have fully cooled you can add the frosting or toppings and write your message.
Allow the cookies to set before wrapping or storing.
