Frequently asked questions about no churn ice cream.

What does 'no churn' mean in ice cream?

"No Churn" generally refers to ice cream not made with an ice cream maker.
"Churn" means that there is agitating done as a means of mixing the ingredients.

While churn and no churn ice cream may look or taste alike, ingredients may differ due to the process used. For example, no churn ice cream will use sweetened condensed milk rather than sugar to sweeten the ice cream.

How do you store no churn ice cream?

This ice cream should be stored in an airtight container and in the freezer. If properly stored, it should keep for up to a month.

Ice cream that is stored in a freezer should be covered with plastic wrap or a sealed top. This is to prevent ice crystals from forming and thus, ruining the ice cream.

Tips for making no churn ice cream.

Because this is a 'no churn' recipe, we will be using a mixer outfitted with a whisk attachment to beat the cream with. The cream should be beaten until soft peaks form, however, not over-beaten beyond that point.

    More tips for you

    1. This recipe uses canned sweetened condensed milk. Placing the canned condensed milk in your refrigerator overnight can help with the texture of your whipped ingredients.
    2. If you are using a metal loaf pan to set your ice cream in, it is a good idea to freeze or refrigerate that as well before it is used. This will help your ingredients freeze more evenly.
    3. Covering the ice cream when you freeze it is essential. This will help prevent crystals from forming and unwanted objects from falling into your ice cream.

    Personalize homemade ice cream.

This peppermint ice cream is easy and tasty just the way it is.
However, you can make yours even better.

    Try one of these ideas.

    • Stir in some marshmallows for added texture.
    • Add some white chocolate chips.
    • Serve your ice cream with pieces of minty chocolate candy.

How to make No Churn Peppermint Ice Cream

    Prep time: 10 minutes
    Freeze time: 10 hours

    Step One: prepare.

Crush your hard candy if not yet crushed. I like to first put in a zip top bag and then run a rolling pin over it a few times. Also, outfit your mixer with whisk attachment.

    Step Two: mix the ingredients.

    1. In mixing bowl, with a mixer outfitted with a whisk attachment, whisk the heavy cream until soft peaks just begin to form. Do not oven whisk to the point of firm peaks.
    2. Stir in the condensed milk, peppermint and vanilla extracts, and food color gel until just combined.
    3. Lastly, fold in the crushed peppermint candy.

Step Three: finish making the ice cream.

Transfer the ingredients to a loaf pan and cover with plastic or similar wrap. The place the loaf pan into the freezer for at least six hours, preferably overnight.

Expert Tip 👉 Sprinkle additional candy remnants on top of the ice cream before freezing for festive presentation.
