- Mason Jars. Eight ounce jars were used to make my jars.
- String, yarn, or ribbon.

Ingredients needed to make hot cocoa gift jars.
- Sugar. Use regular granulated sugar.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. Please use the basic cocoa powder and not hot cocoa or chocolate mix for this gift idea.
- Powdered Milk. My jars were made using basic powdered milk.
- Chocolate Chips. White chocolate chips can also be used.
- Mini Marshmallows. You can find holiday marshmallows here.
How to make Hot Cocoa in a Jar.
Servings:Makes 2 (8 oz) jars or 1 (16 oz) jar.
Step One: prepare to make the gift jars.
- Wash and dry your mason jars and remove any stickers that may be attached.
- Download the tags on to thick paper of cardstock or make your own.
- Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the tag so that you can attach it to your jar ( top left corner, about ¼ inch from the edges).
Expert Tip👉 You can use twine, ribbon, or string to attach the tag to your mason jar. My twine was cut to three feet long so that it could be wrapped around the rim of the jar multiple times.
Step Two: layer the ingredients.
- Place the sugar in the bottom of the jar and lightly tap the jar on your table to settle it in place.
- Next, top the sugar with the unsweetened cocoa powder. Tap and then add the powdered milk and repeat.
- Top the powdered milk with a layer of chocolate chips and then marshmallows.
Expert Tip👉 The amounts of ingredients used in each layer are for an eight ounce jars. If your jar is a different size, you will need to make ingredient adjustments as needed so that they cocoa turns out right.
Step Three: finish the jars.
- Tap the jar lightly on your table to settle the ingredients.
- Screw the lid tightly on to the jar.
- Tie the tag with the instructions for making the cocoa on the jar.
