    What is rolled paper craft?

Rolled paper craft, also known as 'Quilling' is a method for using paper to decorate something in order to make a three dimensional art.

The paper used in this project is first cut into small strips.
After being cut into strips, the rolled paper is then glued on to a base to make a three dimension wreath ornament.

Tips for making a curled paper wreath.

My paper strips were made using a child sized scissors because the strips are so small. Really, and smaller scissors could work for cutting small strips.

    More tips for you

    1. If you have difficulty curling your paper strips try using a q-tip or pencil to wrap the stripes around for curling.
    2. Glue the ends of the strips to the body after curling and before putting the curls down. This will help keep the curls tight and in place.
    3. To make the wreath base you can use two cans of different sizes that can be traced and then cut out. Use a sturdier paper or cardboard for the base if needed as well.
    4. This project is suitable for most ages. However, some folks may need a bit of assistance as needed especially when cutting out the strips of paper.

    Personalize this curled paper wreath.

This is a cute and simple project just the way that it is.
You could however make yours even better.

    Try one of these ideas.

    • Add small ornaments to your wreath.
    • Use a color other than green to make your wreath with.
    • Make your wreath larger to use as a door or wall decoration.

This is a simple holiday season craft idea for turning small rolled paper strips into a holiday wreath. The wreath made in this project is the perfect size to use as a tree ornament or decoration for a wrapped gift.

This project is really suitable for most ages.

We will start by making tracing and cutting out the round base for the wreath.
Then we will curl the strips of paper to glue on to the round base.

Materials needed to make a curled paper wreath.

    • Green cardstock or cardboard that can be used as the base.
    • Also, green construction paper (mine was made using two shades, the darker used as leaves for the 'berries') and red paper to cut into strips.
    • Glue, a glue stick works in this project.
    • Ribbon that can be used as a bow and to hang the wreath with.

Scissors, pencil, red silk ribbon, glue stick, tape, 2 shades of green and red papers

How to make a rolled paper wreath.

    Step One: prepare.

To make the base for the wreath, you will need to cut a circle and a hole in the circle out of the cardstock paper. I suggest that you use something round, like two different sized cans, to trace the circles and then cut them out.

    Step Two: prepare the strips.

    1. Cut out paper strips that are ⅓-1/2" wide (depending on the size of your circle base) and about three to four inches long.
    2. To roll the strips, you can roll the papers between your thumb and index fingers or use something such as a pencil tip instead.
    3. Once the strips have been rolled you can glue the end to the roll itself to so that the strip can stay rolled in place.
    4. Note that my red strips are a bit smaller and rolled a bit tighter to make them resemble berries.

    Step Three: Finish the wreath.

Glue the rolled strips on to the base that you made in the first step. Then make a bow from the ribbon and attach that to the bottom of the wreath. Lastly, loop a piece of ribbon and attach it to the back of the wreath to hang the wreath as desired.
