Ingredients needed to make this inspired cookie monster cookies recipe.

The ingredients needed to make the basic cookie are common pantry ingredients used for cookie baking. The added cookies used for the mouth can be substituted with your favorites.

Here is what you will need.

    • Flour. All purpose flour was used to make my cookies.
    • Baking Soda. Added as a leavener.
    • Salt. Omit this if you are using salted butter.
    • Butterfly Pea Powder This is what makes the cookies blue.
    • Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar. Both sugars are used for sweetening.
    • Eggs. Your eggs should be at room temperature for best results.
    • Vanilla Extract. Added for flavor balance.
    • Chocolate Chips. Milk or semisweet chocolate chips work best. You can also swap in some white chocolate chips for a portion of the chocolate chips.
    • Sandwich Cookies (such as Oreos) and Chocolate Chip Cookies (such as Chips Ahoy) are used chopped into chunks and used as decoration.
    • Edible Eyes. So our monster can see. 😉

Expert Tip👉 Blue food coloring can be used to color the cookie dough however, it is hard to get the desired blue hue for this cookie using blue food dye.

Tips for making the best inspired by Sesame Street Cookie Monster Cookies.

This is basically a chocolate chip cookie recipe that has been modified to look like a monster who likes to eat cookies. Feel free to experiment with substitutions to make these cookies fun.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. The creaming together of the sugar with the butter is an important part in making cookies. For best results, use real butter that has been softened to room temperature.
    2. Butterfly pea powder is used as a natural dye to make these cookies blue. Because it is a dye, I like to wear an apron or covering and take precautions as it may stain things I do not want stained.
    3. Mix the ingredients until just combined to prevent over-activating your leavener.
    4. Folding in the chocolate chips and chunks going into the dough should be done gently for the same reason I just mentioned.
    5. If you are making these cookies jumbo or mini sized, baking times may vary.
    6. To make these cookies perfectly round, use a round cookie cutter to shape them into place while they are still warm.

How to make Favorite Cookie Monster Inspired Cookies

    Prep Time: 15 minutes.
    Bake Time: 8-10 minutes .
Servings: 42 regular sized cookies .

    1. Preheat your oven to 350 and prepare your baking sheets for nonstick. I like parchment paper or a baking mat for a recipe such as this one.
    2. In a medium bowl, use a whisk to combine together the baking soda, flour, and salt.
    3. Next, in a mixing bowl, beat together the butter and both sugars until creamy. Then stir in the eggs and vanilla extract.
    4. Add the butterfly pea powder to the mixing bowl and mix until blended through. Then add the dry ingredients from the first bowl and mix until just combined.
    5. Next, use a rubber spatula to carefully fold in half of the chopped cookies and the chocolate chips.
    6. Use a cookie scoop (medium was used for my cookies) to scoop out the dough. Then roll the dough between your hands to form a ball. Place the cookies about an inch and a half apart on the baking sheet.
    7. Bake the cookies for eight to ten minutes or until the edges appear set.
    8. Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for five minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to fully cool. While the cookies are cooling on the baking sheet, carefully and gently add the eyes and cookie chunks needed to make the mouth. Then place the edible eyes in place while still warm.

Expert Tip👉 If your dough is too soft to work with, try refrigerating it for 10-15 minutes before rolling it into balls.

How to store Cookie Monster Inspired Cookies

Once these cookies have fully cooled, they should be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, these cookies should keep for about a week at room temperature or up to a couple of months when frozen.
