    Slow Cooker Pumpkin Butter

This is a simple homemade recipe idea for making pumpkin butter in a slow cooker.
The ingredients in this recipe are simple ingredients.

Cooking this pumpkin butter in a slow cooker allows for the ingredients to merge together in an enjoyable way.

Even better is the smell of this pumpkin butter while it is cooking in the slow cooker.
Nothing is more 'fall inspiring' then the smell of pumpkins and fall seasonings in the kitchen in my opinion!

I found some great prices on slow cookers and crock pots online.
There are a variety of sizes and features too!

People ask what is pumpkin butter made of.

You may already know that pumpkin butter is made with pumpkins.
Fresh pumpkin can be used as can canned pumpkin.

Using pumpkin puree is the easiest way to make this recipe for pumpkin butter.

Make sure that you use a pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling as these are two different products. Also, if you use fresh pumpkins, use a pumpkin that you would use for baking and not necessarily for carving as baking pumpkins have better meat for this recipe.

People do ask if pumpkin butter is the same as pumpkin puree.

While pumpkin butter, such as in this recipe, is made with pumpkin puree, they are not the same thing. Think of pumpkin butter as ketchup and pumpkin puree as the tomatoes.

Pumpkin butter is something that is made using pumpkin puree.

The pumpkin puree is then combined with other ingredients such as spices.
Once the pumpkin puree and other ingredients have been cooked, in a slow cooker for example, the result is a tasty pumpkin butter that can be used on toast or other food.

    Tips for making pumpkin butter.

I just mentioned that the easiest way to make pumpkin butter is to use canned pumpkin puree rather that fresh pumpkin. If you do use fresh pumpkin, you will need to puree it for this recipe anyway.

Here are some more helpful tips for you.

    1. While I am providing you with seasoning ingredient amounts that work for me, you are welcome to adjust the ingredients as needed. You can also add seasonings of your choice.
    2. If your pumpkin butter is too thick for your liking you can simply use a food processor or blender to get it to your desired consistency. Using an immersion blender is another option.
    3. This recipe used apple cider. Feel free to add a tablespoon of two of orange juice for additional flavors!

How to make this a sugar free pumpkin butter

Yes, this recipe does call for sugar. However, it can be made using sugar alternatives.

Here are substitutes that you can use for the sugar in this recipe.
You can cut the apple cider to ¼ cup and add ¼ cup of water or simple use ½ cup of water instead of the cider (I would add additional flavorings such as seasonings to balance out the blandness that can result). For the brown sugar use a brown sugar alternative such as Surkin Gold and for the white sugar alternative use a granular white sugar alternative such as Monk Fruit.

How to make Pumpkin Butter in a Slow Cooker or Crock Pot.

I suggest that you use a slow cooker that is at least six quart for this recipe.
You will need a slow cooker that is large enough to hold all of the pumpkin while also allowing enough room for sitting as needed.

You will also need to have a storage container for your pumpkin butter.

I like to use glass canning jars because they can easily be used as gifting the pumpkin butter to friends. However, this pumpkin butter can easily be frozen in a freezer container as well.

How to make Pumpkin Butter in a Slow cooker.

Step 1. Combine all of the ingredients in your slow cooker and stir them until combined. I like to give my slow cooker a quick spray with nonstick first.

Step 2. Cover and cook on high for 2 ½ to three hours or on low or until the the apple butter is able to stick to a wooden spoon. You will need to stir occasionally while it cooks. The pumpkin butter can be cooked on low for up to eight hours or until it sticks to a spoon as well.

Step 3. Transfer to clean containers and refrigerate or freeze.
