Everyone may have their own opinion on making a good French toast.
However, this is one element that can make your French toast a success and no a soggy mess.
The bread that you use should be a thick and dense bread such as French Bread, Brioche, or Challah. Also, that bread should be a bit on the stale side so that is can hold its shape when baked or cooked with the wet ingredients.
Tips for making Bananas Foster.
The best bananas to use in this recipe are the ones that are just ripe and still somewhat hard. Bananas that are over-ripe are soft and may not hold their structure while baked as a result.
More tips for you
- The bread should be somewhat stale as well. Bread that is too soft may not stand up when covered with the wet ingredients.
- When you pour the eggs over the bread, makes sure that the bread gets well covered with the eggs. You can gently press the bread down so that all of the bread can absorb the egg mixture.
- Can you use actual rum in this recipe instead of the extract? Yes, you can but, I would suggest that you stick to a darker rum.
