What makes glazed ham so good?

Glazed ham is a classic Easter dish that delivers a beautiful balance of flavors and festive presentation that is elevated to a new level with the addition of apricot preserves.

I like this is a classic dish that is easy to make and nearly foolproof.

Have you tried my recipe for Carrot Cake Rice Krispie Treats?

Made with grated carrots and classic krispie Treat ingredients, those treat have the classic taste and crunch of a krispie treat with the added bonus of carrots. Both this glazed ham and those Rice Krispie Treats with carrots are perfect when served together at an Easter celebration.

Apricot preserves are added to this recipe for an added flavor that really brings everything together. The preserves add a fruity flavor and tangy balance while creating a glossy, sticky texture in this ham. You can find apricot preserves here.

    1. Prepare. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare your roasting pan for nonstick. Nonstick spray or aluminum foil can work in this recipe.
    2. Ham. Place the ham into the roasting pan with the 'fat-side' (curved) up and the cut side (flat) down.
    3. Bake. Make a foil tent over the ham (cover the ham loosely) and the bake the ham for one and a half hours.
    4. Glaze. About an hour and 20 minutes into baking, you can prepare your glaze. In a small saucepan on medium heat, combine together the apricot preserves, mustard, brown sugar, vinegar, and garlic powder. Use a whisk to mix the ingredients as they heat. Once the glaze is slightly thickened and smooth, you can remove it from the heat.
    5. Baste. Remove the foil tent from your ham and use a pastry brush or similar item to generously brush the glaze over the ham. Return the ham to the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Then brush the remaining glaze over the ham and continue to bake for another 15 minutes.

Tips for making the best glazed ham.

Make sure that you are using a fully cooked bone-in ham for this recipe. This kind of ham has the best flavor and moisture for this recipe.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. While not essential, using a knife to make shallow (about ¼") crisscrosses over the ham can help the glaze penetrate into the ham. The crisscrossed also add to the presentation of the baked ham.
    2. Tenting the ham with foil while baking allows the ham to retain its moisture. The tent is then removed to allow the glaze to caramelize and become golden.
    3. Lastly, the last step before serving the ham is to allow the ham to rest. This is done to allow the juices to properly distribute throughout the ham for optimal moisture.

How to store Brown Sugar Glazed Ham

Once your ham has fully cooled it can be stored in an airtight container or wrapped up well in foil. When properly stored, the leftover ham should keep for up to five days when refrigerated or up to a couple of months when frozen.
