Tips for making the best no bake Twinkie dessert.

The actual Hostess Twinkie snack cakes were used to make my cake.
Other similar snack cakes may also work in this recipe.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Stale cakes will hold up better in this recipe while fresher ones will absorb the flavors and moisture from the other ingredients. If you are making this in advance, you may want to let your cakes get a bit stale so that they will hold up better.
    2. While my no bake cake was made with vanilla flavored pudding, other flavors such as chocolate could also work in this recipe. Just make sure that you are using an 'instant pudding' in this recipe.
    3. My cake was made with cherries and bananas. You can try other fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries.
    4. Since we are saving time by using frozen topping the structure may not be like freshly made whipped topping. For a topping with more structure you can use a rubber spatula to fold in a little instant vanilla pudding mix (up to a tablespoon) before spreading the topping.
    5. When slicing your cakes, use a bread or a serrated knife to cut your Twinkies for cleaner slices.
    6. This cake can be frozen for a few hours before serving for a cold ice cream-like treat!

How to Make this No Bake Twinkie Cake Recipe.

    Prep Time: 10 minutes
    Yield: 15 servings
    Setting Time: 1 hour.

    1. Start by preparing the Twinkies. Remove them from the wrapper and slice them lengthwise in half. Then place the Twinkies, with the inside facing up, evenly lined up in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
    2. The pudding layer will go on top of the sliced Twinkies. Beat or mix together the instant pudding mix and the milk until well blended and thickened (about three and a half to four minutes). Then evenly spread the instant pudding over the Twinkie layer- a rubber spatula or similar utensil works well here.
    3. For the fruit layer that goes on top of the pudding, evenly spread out the banana slices and then the pineapple on top of that.
    4. Lastly, evenly spread the thawed whipped topping on top of the pudding.
    5. Cover the cake with plastic wrap or a similar cover and refrigerate the cake for at least an hour to set.
    6. Before serving you can place the cherries and nuts on top of the cake.

Expert Tip👉 Instead of using Twinkie snack cakes you can use pound or sponge cake to make this recipe.

Leftover cake should be covered and stored. When properly stored, this cake should keep for up to three days refrigerated before the cakes get soggy.
