This layered frozen dessert is simple to make and is especially perfect for summer gatherings.
While it may take about ten minutes to make this dessert, it does require freezing time to set.
How to serve this ice cream sandwich dessert.
- Cut the cake into small squares and serve in individual cupcake liners.
- Top the cake with sliced fruit such as strawberries and bananas on top.
- Serve this cake with a cup of coffee, milk, or flavored water.
Ingredients needed to make easy Ice Cream Sandwich Cake.
- Frozen Ice Cream Sandwiches. Any flavor can be used. The ice cream sandwiches should be unwrapped and divided for cake layers.
- Frozen Whipped Topping. Use the standard tub version. This should be thawed in your refrigerator.
- Hot Fudge Ice Cream Topping. Feel free to use a basic chocolate syrup topping instead.
- Caramel Ice Cream Topping. Butterscotch can alternatively be used.
- Chopped Candy Pieces. Chopped toffee pieces were used to make my cake.
- Mini Chocolate Chips. Semi sweet chocolate chips are easier to eat in a frozen dessert.
- Sprinkles. Any kind of sprinkles of your choice.
How to make Ice Cream Sandwich Cake
Step One: Prepare.
My cake was made in a 9X13 baking dish. Make sure that your baking dish is clean and dry. Also, remove the wrap from each of the ice cream sandwiches.
Step Two: assemble the cake.
- Start by making base layer by placing the first layer of ice cream sandwiches on the bottom of the dish.
- On top of the bottom layer of ice cream sandwiches, use a rubber spatula or cake spreader to evenly spread a cup (half of a regular sized tub of whipped topping) over the sandwiches.
- Next, evenly spread a layer of the fudge topping on top of the whipped topping. Then pour a light layer of the caramel topping over the fudge.
- Top the cake with the remaining sandwiches and repeat the layers from the two steps.
- Sprinkle the remaining ingredients (toffee, chocolate chips, and sprinkles) over the top layer of the cake.
Expert Tip 👉 You may need to cut one or two ice cream sandwiches to side to make the layers. As long as the layer is all ice cream sandwich, you should be okay when you go to slice the dessert for serving.
Step Three: finish making the cake.
Cover the cake well using aluminum foil. The freeze for at least two hours or preferably overnight to set. When you are ready to serve the cake, simply slice the cake and enjoy.
