Yield: 8 servings
Step One: prepare.
Slice your bread into 1 ½" wide slices. Prep your slow cooker for nonstick as desired. Nonstick spray or a liner can work in this recipe.
Expert Tip👉 While my toast is sliced for individual servings, you can alternatively slice your bread into chunks or cubes. Smaller bites can work best with the younger crowd or those with small appetites.
Step Two: assemble the ingredients.
- In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine together the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and melted butter until completely blended. It will be sandy in appearance when blended. Then place about a quarter of this mixture over the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Place an even layer of sliced bread over the sandy mixture on the bottom of the slow cooker making sure that you cover any open gaps in the bread as needed with bread.
- Next, cover the layer of bread with a quarter of the butter and brown sugar mixture over the bread. You should have half of the brown sugar and butter mixture left after doing this.
- Top the brown sugar and butter layer with a quarter of the frozen blueberries.
- Repeat the layers twice in the same steps (2,3,4 above) , finishing with a layer of blueberries.
- In a large mixing bowl use a whisk to combine together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and optional salt, beating the ingredients until well blended. Then pour this egg mixture evenly and slowly over the bread, allowing the mixture to soak into the bread.
- Cover the layered ingredients are refrigerate for a minimum of one hour to, preferably, overnight.
Expert Tip👉 Before turning on your slow cooker, check the manufacturer's directions as it may be a good idea to allow the slow cooker to get to room temperature before heating it.
