Easy tips for using an air fryer.

What is the secret for cooking in an air fryer?

Air fryers are a simple and convenient method used to cook foods.
Because of the small size of an air fryer, in comparison to an oven, warm air is able to circulate quickly to cook or bake foods.

The secret to cooking foods in an air fryer it to not assume that cooking in an air fryer is the same as cooking in an oven or microwave.

Here is how to use an air fryer more successfully.

    • Like with any other kitchen appliance, carefully refer to the manual that came with it for best practices.
    • While it may be tempting to use a nonstick spray in your air fryer, it is not recommended as it can ruin the basket. You can use an air fryer liner or certain oil sprays instead.
    • Preheating your air fryer can help your food cook more evenly.
    • Avoid overcrowding the food in the basket as the food needs the space for the warm air to circulate to cook it.
    • Clean the basket after each use to prevent residue buildup which can ruin future recipes and possible cause an issue the air fryer.
    • Invest in air fryer accessories so that you can enjoy making more amazing recipes!

Tips making chex mix in an air fryer

The trick for making a good Chex mix at home is to first mix the dry ingredients. Then, evenly distribute the wet ingredients (melted butter...) over those dry ingredients.

    More tips for you

    1. Overcrowding the ingredients can result in uneven air frying results. If you have a small air fryer, or have double this recipe (why not?) you may want to consider making more than one batch.
    2. After air frying, I like to transfer my check mix to a rimmed baking sheet that is lined with paper towels while it cools. Doing this allows the Chex mix to completely dry out and become more crispy.
    3. Store the Chex mix in an airtight container or zip top bag at room temperature. If your mix gets soft within a few days you can try placing into a preheated oven at low temperature for a few minutes to get it crispy again.

Personalize best air fryer chex mix recipe

Yes, this recipe for air fryer Chex mix is perfect just the way it is.
You can however make yours even better!

    Try one of these ideas.

    • I always like to use a variety of cereals rather than one flavor as they come in different colors and flavors.
    • Once your mix has cooled you can add in your favorite extras such as nuts, pretzels, bagel chips, popcorn, and or sweet stuff such as candy.
    • Do you have to use Chex cereal? Use whatever cereal you like best. I have used Cheerios in my mix.

About homemade chex mix in an air fryer.

Air fryer Chex Mix is a crunchy and flavorful snack mix that is prepped similarly like the classic oven baked recipe. The ingredients are simply tossed together and then baked until crisp.

How to serve snack mix made in an air fryer.

    • Serve this snack mix as is with a glass of lemonade, flavored water, or soda on the side.
    • Combine this snack mix with popcorn and serve during family or friends movie time.
    • Place the snack mix into individual sandwich sized zip top bags and pack it for lunch or as a snack.
Easy Air Fryer Chex Mix Recipe, the perfect salty, crunch, and savory snack idea that can be made in about 10 minutes.

Ingredients needed to make snack mix in an air fryer.

    • Chex Cereal. I like to use more than one kind of cereal, Chex or not (you can see Cheerios in my snack mix).
    • Pretzels. My mix was made with both pretzel sticks and mini pretzel sticks.
    • Peanuts. Roasted and unsalted preferred.
    • Oyster Crackers. Any brand works. Note that if you have stale oyster crackers, you can use those in this recipe.
    • Butter. Salted is okay to use.
    • Seasonings. My mix was made with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and pepper. You can actually purchase Chex mix seasoning to go.
    • Worcestershire Sauce

Expert Tip👉 When selecting ingredients (pretzels, nuts, etc.), look for ingredients that do not have as little added flavor as possible. We are adding plenty of seasoning to this snack mix which may or may not go well with other flavors.

How to make Easy Air Fryer Chex Mix Recipe

    Air Fryer Chex Mix
    Prep time 5 minutes
    Cook time 7 minutes
    Yields 7 cups

    Step One: prepare ingredients.

In a really large bowl, combine together the Cereal(s), pretzels, peanuts, and oyster crackers. Use a ladle or a couple of large wooden spoons to toss the ingredients.

    Step Two: season the mixture.

    1. In a small saucepan on medium heat, melt the butter.
    2. Once your butter has melted you can carefully whisk in the seasonings and the worcester sauce.
    3. Pour half of the butter mixture over the ingredients in the bowl. Then repeat the process with the remaining butter mixture.

Step Three: air fry the snack mix.

When all of the ingredients in the large bowl have been coated with the butter mixture, you can transfer the mix to your air fryer. You may need to make this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Air fry the mixture at 350 for four minutes then toss or shake the basket and repeat. After the second shake or toss, air fry the mix for three minutes or until crisp. Allow the mix to cool before enjoying.

Expert Tip👉 After the mix has fully cooled, you can add chocolate candies, marshmallows, or chocolate chips for a sweet balance to your mix.
