What you will read about in this recipe.
What makes hot chocolate brownie so good?
Hot chocolate brownies take an everyday brownie up a notch as they are packed with creamy hot chocolate flavor and topped with a gooey layer of melted marshmallows on top.
I like that these brownies are like a mug of hot chocolate in brownie form .
Have you tried my recipe for Fudgy Cosmic Brownies?
Those Cosmic Brownies are topped with a Chocolate Ganache Frosting and colorful candies. Both hot chocolate brownies and those cosmic brownies are fudgy brownies are both sweet and rich, making them perfect for about any chocolate craving.
Hot chocolate mix is an important ingredients in this brownie recipe. You can find hot chocolate mix here.

What you need to make brownies with hot chocolate.
- Butter. If you are using unsalted butter you can add a half teaspoon of salt to the dry ingredients. Cut your butter into pieces such as pats to make it easier to melt.
- Chocolate Chips. Semi-sweet chocolate chips work well.
- Hot Chocolate Mix. You will need just the dry mix and not the ingredients needed to actually make the hot chocolate.
- Flour Regular all purpose flour.
- Eggs Large eggs at room temperature.
- Vanilla Extract. For flavor balance.
- Marshmallows. My brownies were topped with mini- marshmallows.

How to make Hot Chocolate Brownies.
- Prep Time: 20 minutes .
- Bake Time: 25-28 minutes .
- Servings: 16 brownies. .
- How to Serve: Serve these brownies warm with a glass of milk or with a scoop of Ice Cream on the side.
- Notes: To make this recipe you will need a baking pan (mine were made in a 9x13-inch baking pan ), saucepan, a whisk, and and rubber spatula or similar item .
- Prepare. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Double prep your baking pan (parchment paper and spray or grease for example). I like to use parchment paper or foil the overhangs the sides of the baking pan to make it easier to remove the brownies later on.
- Melt. In a medium or large saucepan on low heat, melt together the butter and chocolate chips, whisking or stirring the ingredients constantly, until the ingredients are melted and smooth. Then remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the ingredients to sit for three to five minutes to cool slightly. Once the ingredients have slightly cooled you can whisk in the hot chocolate mix.
- Eggs. Add the eggs to the saucepan, one at a time, whisking the ingredients between additions.
- Flour. Use the spatula to scrape down the sides of the saucepan and then gently fold in the flour (and salt) until just combined. A few lumps are okay.
- Bake. Evenly transfer the ingredients in the prepared baking pan and then gently tap the bottom of the pan on your countertop a few times. Bake the brownies for 25 minutes or until somewhat set. Carefully sprinkle your mini marshmallows over the brownies and then continue to bake until the marshmallows begin to brown (just a few minutes).
- Cool Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before using the parchment paper to lift them from the pan to cut into pieces.

Tips for making the best hot chocolate brownies.
Dry hot chocolate mix powder is an important ingredients in this recipe. Hot cocoa or chocolate milk mix will not work in this recipe. Also, it is a good idea to use the hot chocolate mix that comes in a large container rather than individual packets as you will need to open the packets (which is less fun) and can lead to inaccurate measuring.
More helpful tips for you.
- My brownies were made in a 9x13" baking pan that yielded 16 brownies. While you could use the size pan of your choice, keep in mind that baking times can vary due to the pan that you use.
- Vanilla extract was used to add flavor to my brownies. Other extracts, such as peppermint extract, can easily be used instead.
- Optional add-ins for this recipe include chopped nuts (such as walnuts), crushed peppermint candy, or marshmallow cream.

How to store brownies.
Once your brownies have fully set, they can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, they should keep for up to a few days at room temperature, refrigerator for up to a week, or up to a few months when frozen. Not that due to the marshmallow topping, it is best to store these brownies in a single layer.
